Since 2003, I’ve trained and mentored non-traditional yoga teachers and yoga biz babes.

Think you don’t fit the mold of a yoga teacher?

The stereotype seems to be a yoga teacher who is size 2-4, modern-day contortionist who belongs on a glossy magazine cover. Her classes tend to be sweat-fests, and she shows off poses that intimidate the s**t of you. And everybody in class looks just like her.

Now imagine the yoga teacher who cares more about making a difference in the lives of others, and embraces the spiritual side of yoga. She guides you to connect with your body and be grateful for what it can do, and doesn’t care about your body shape or hers.

I mentor the second kind of teacher, and if that’s you, grab an iced tea and stick around.

The non-traditional revolution started here

If you’ve taken yoga in any north Texas yoga studio, chances are good you’ve taken from a Purple Lotus trained teacher. I have the oldest Yoga Alliance approved program in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex.

I have more than 10,000 hours of teaching yoga, and for 16 years, I’ve been mentoring and certifying teachers, many of whom have gone on to start their own studios, teacher training programs, and other yoga related businesses.

You can be a non-traditional teacher too

While knowledge of the postures is the first step in becoming a skilled instructor, it’s not the only one. (And just because someone else CAN do all the cirque-like poses doesn’t mean they’d be a good teacher.)

It’s not about the yoga voice, Sanskrit-fluency or even wearing size 2 fancy pants….It’s about how the participants feel during and after class. With my Texas accent, butchered Sanskrit, and size 8-10 off-brand yoga pants, I teach one hell of a class.

Easy Homemade Granola

One of my favorite cereals is granola, but a lot of the store-bought versions leave a lot to be desired in terms of preservatives, fat, and refined sugars. It wasn't until a couple of years ago, I learned how easy it was to make granola at home. As with most of my...

10 Places to Start Teaching Yoga

This, by far, is one of the most frequently asked questions I get from clients who are talking to me about starting teacher training or who are already in teacher training with me. Where can I go to teach yoga? How can I find a place or a space to teach yoga? And what...
